Beautiful Perth | From Sofia to Adelaide

The biggest journey so far in my life started after a 20-hour long flght, not enough sleep + an Olympic run with suitcases at 2 a.m in the hecka huge airport in Doha to catch a plane. Nice, huh? Not really. Anyways, after this whole experience, we finally arrived on the airport in Perth, Western Australia. (And now you’re gonna ask “Why are you in Perth and not in Adelaide?” And we’ll get to that part later) It was mid-February and it was 30 degrees outside (although it was late in the evening, it was still summer here) and above all, we had to wait about half an hour to check our luggage and another hour to get out of the airport. However, at that time I was really happy and I didn’t mind anything just because I was... REALLY HAPPY! Happy, because I left the airplane and I don’t feel dizzy anymore (and by the way, I thought I like airplanes... well, I don’t anymore!), but mostly because I was finally in Australia and I was going to explore another country and, oh my gosh, TO LIVE THERE! How cool is that?!

Family friends were waiting for us at the airport. We were going to live in their house for a couple of weeks until we find a way to reach our final destination - Adelaide. But until then, we were going to explore beautiful Perth. And let me tell y’all, it was very, very beautiful!

Perth is the capital of Western Australia, the biggest state of Australia. It has a population of approximately 2.2 million people and it is located around the Swan River.

The first thing I noticed when I arrived in the city was how different it was from Sofia. There was a lot of space, the distances between the different places we wanted to go to were so long and sometimes that caused some difficulties. One day we traveled for a whole hour just to go to a restaurant! It was very different from what I used to have in Bulgaria, where everything is really close to you.

Then I started going for walks, going to the beach, visiting some places and I began to notice how beautiful this city was! The weather was perfect when we came there - not too hot and not too cold either - so we spent most of the time there outside. We were going to the beach, we were going for morning and night walks, making picnics, swimming and it was wonderful. I believe we did our best to see everything possible in this stunning city and I personally really liked it! I can’t say that I completely fell in love with it but I definitely had a great time there.

And here you have some pictures of beautiful Perth. I didn’t take many pictures myself (and that’s so unfortunate) so these pics are not mine. Enjoy anyways:

The thing that amazed me as a tourist was how clean and quiet this city is. I expected it to be a noisy, polluted, New-York style city but instead I found a beautiful and quiet place where you can absolutely enjoy your holidays.

A major part of the tourists that come to visit Perth start with the City of Fremantle - the old centre of this city. It's known for its maritime history, Victorian architecture and remnants from Australia's days as a British penal colony. I loved this place! I liked the old Victorian architecture and it was really, really nice going there (and eating a HUUUUUUGE sundae which made me feel super sick afterwards... everything’s fine)

We did very exciting things as well! First of all, we went to the huuuuuuuuuge Kings Park, from where we saw the whole city (and where I had a fight with a bird trying to eat my sandwich... it won!!!). Then, we went for a kangaroo hunt. NOT LITERALLY, calm down! We just went to a kangaroo park where you could see kangaroos. Well, we didn’t :/ (but we saw enough on our way to Adelaide, which is a different story for a different post).

My love of music was also satisfied because I went to a concert of Dami Im, who is an Australian singer that became famous after finishing 2nd in Eurovision Song Contest 2016. She was amazing!

But by far the most exciting and memorable thing that happened there was when we went on a boat on the Swan River and we... SAW DOLPHINS! Yeah, we sailed and the dolphins were right next to us! It was so exciting and the dolphins were sooooo adorable!

Okay, I’m gonna stop here, even though I have a lot more to talk about, because otherwise the post is gonna be thirty pages long. Overall, Perth is a great and beautiful place, full of places to visit and enjoy yourself. And after the solid three weeks of wandering through this magnificent city, I was finally ready to leave it and travel all the way to Adelaide, through bushes, deserts, beautiful bays and not that beautiful hotel rooms... by car!
